Noun, Classical Mythology
The Greek Mythology legend of Icarus and his father, master craftsman, Daedalus, has a strong connection to our philosophy. As the legend goes, Icarus and his father attempted to escape imprisonment from Crete by means of wings Daedalus constructed from feathers and wax. Daedalus advised his son not to be too complacent or too prideful, asking that he fly neither too high or too low, so the sea’s moisture wouldn’t clog his wings or the sun’s heat melt them. Icarus ignored his father’s advice and flew too close to the sun where the heat melted his wings, and he fell into the sea.
